| The Floating World Calendar, Wall, Publishers Group West (PGW)
Eighteenth-century Japanese artist Kitagawa Utamaro (1753-1806) was unsurpassed in creating classic woodblock prints depicting the exotic world of Old Tokyo (Edo). Some of his most compelling works are behind-the-scenes portraits of the beauties, courtesans, children, and laborers who inhabit that world. The range of subjects in these intricate prints highlight Utamaro's fascination with the floating world as well as his mastery of his craft. In these iconic portraits, life in the pleasure quarters is captured here in glorious detail. This 2006 Wall calendar was published by Publishers Group West (PGW).
