Fairies Calendar, Wall, Pomegranate
In most cases, illustration defers to the narrative flow of the story it accompanies, but Richard Doyle (English, 1824 - 1883) was more concerned with establishing a magical atmosphere in his paintings. Imagination unfettered, he created lustrous, colorful, and highly detailed worlds for his large cast of fairies, elves, and animals to inhabit. Twenty-four fine Doyle illustrations from the 1870 book In Fairyland, accompanied by Doyle's idiosyncratic captions, adorn this calendar, along with captivating quotations concerning fairies. This 2006 Wall calendar was published by Pomegranate.
