Michael Parkes Calendar, Wall, Ronnie SellersMichael Parkes is an American-born painter and sculptor with an international following. After graduating college with a degree in art, he spent several years teaching at colleges in Ohio and Florida. In the 1960s, Parkes traveled to India on a spiritual quest that changed the course of his life. While there, he began to study and contemplated the myths and mysticism that later became recurring themes in his artwork. After returning from India, Michael's style of painting changed dramatically. He moved away from Abstract Expressionism toward a style that involved meticulous and imaginative renderings that were reflective of his rich inner life. His paintings are realistic in their presentation, but his themes are often magical and otherworldly. Michael uses the term "magical realism" to describe his work.
